WordPress: How to Disable Comments

WordPress has settings that allow you to disable comments on all posts or individual posts.

Disable Comments on New Posts

  1. Login to the WordPress dashboard to your site and go to Settings > Discussion.
  2. Check the Allow people to submit comments on new posts box, then select Save Changes.

Disable Comments on Individual Posts

Option 1

  1. From the Posts > All Posts or Pages > All Pages screen, select the Quick Edit option for the post you wish to disable comments for.
  2. Uncheck the Allow comments box, then select the Update button.

Option 2

  1. While on the post or page editing screen, expand the Discussion area.
  2. Uncheck the Allow comments box, then save the post by selecting Update or Publish

Note: If you are using the Classic Editor and the Discussion section is missing, you may need to select Screen Options at the top-right part of the page and check Discussion.

Disable Comments on Multiple Posts

If you need to disable comments for multiple posts, or all posts in the past, you can use these steps.

  1. Login to the WordPress dashboard to your site and go to Posts > All Posts or Pages > All Pages screen.
  2. Check the box next to the posts you wish to disable comments on. You can check the top box to select all items on the screen.
  3. Change the Bulk Edit dropdown to Edit, then select Apply.
  4. Change the Comments dropdown to Do not allow.
  5. Select Update.
